Campaign Summary
Thales acquired Vormetric in 2015. In Aug 2022, Thales announced an end-of-life timeline for the Vormetric DSM platform – end of sales 30/06/23 and end of support 30/06/23. This was extended to Dec 2024 – thanks to alternatives such as Randtronics DPM.
Thales is encouraging its customers to migrate to its CipherTrust Platform, that we understand to be based on another product platform that Thales also acquired by acquisition.
Thales, being Thales: high-end HSM play a central role in the CipherTrust story. In addition to encryption management, CipherTrust includes data discovery functionality.
Randtronics’s philosophy of encryption is different. We think recent data breach experience shows that organizations can’t be complacent about loss of any of their data and therefore should encrypt everything.
Secondly, we are a software organization, if customers want HSM we are happy to integrate including those from Thales and make it easy to use HSM’s for masterkey management, but our singular over arching going is making encryption (management) easy.
With Thales forcing its customers to migrate, we see an excellent opportunity to present Randtronics DPM as a ‘drop-in’ alternative.
DPM does pretty much everything that Vormetric DSM does, we also offer protection for laptops. It is true that we don’t offer protection for legacy platforms such as Solaris, AIX, however, Thales won’t be supporting these platforms on CipherTrust so either way customers are up for re-platform.
Principle benefits to customer:
a) Cost avoidance – Thales’ list prices for CipherTrust are a step increase on historic Vormetric pricing.
b) Focus – Randtronics is exclusively focussed on enterprise encryption management. Our product development will continue to pursue and enhance our vision of making effective encryption of everything ‘easy’.
c) Vendor irritation – no-body likes a vendor who seems to think they can exploit customers who appear to be locked-into a given platform.
